Launch the PowerChute Business Edition Agent installer by changing the current directory to where pbe_agent_705_solaris-x86_jvm.bin resides and typing the following command at the shell prompt: ./pbe_agent_705_solaris-x86_jvm.bin When you install a PowerChute upgrade, any existing default.sh file is backed up and named _default_backup.bak. It is placed in the same cmdfiles directory. 3.0 Starting the PowerChute Business Edition Agent After the installation process is completed, the PowerChute Business Edition Agent begins running automatically. The Agent runs automatically each time the operating system is started. To start the PowerChute Business Edition Agent manually after it has been deliberately stopped, enter the following command at the shell prompt from anywhere in the file system: /bin/startup start 4.0 Stopping the PowerChute Business Edition Agent To stop the PowerChute Business Edition Agent when it is running, enter the following command from anywhere in the file system: /bin/startup stop 5.0 Uninstalling the PowerChute Business Edition Agent To uninstall the PowerChute Business Edition Agent, enter the absolute path to the uninstallPowerChuteBusinessEditionAgent script that is located in the directory where the Agent has been installed. For example, if the Agent is installed to /opt/APC/PowerChuteBusinessEdition/Agent directory, enter the following command at the shell prompt to uninstall the PowerChute Business Edition Agent: /opt/APC/PowerChuteBusinessEdition/Agent/uninstallPowerChuteBusinessEditionAgent 6.0 Known Issues with the PowerChute Business Edition Agent 6.1 Issue: An Administrator level account is required to install the product. Solution: Log in as root and attempt to install the product again. 6.2 Issue: Disabling active scripting in Internet Explorer means that the user cannot log in to PowerChute Business Edition Agent. Solution: Do not disable active scripting in Internet Explorer. If active scripting is disabled, enable it. For Internet Explorer 6.0, you enable active scripting as follows: (a) Select Internet Options on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. (b) On the Security tab, open the list of custom level settings. (c) Under Scripting, near the end of the list, enable "Active scripting." 6.3 Issue: An ActiveX control in the Login screen is marked as being unsafe while using Internet Explorer. Solution: Ensure that active scripting is enabled as described in item 6.2 above. 6.4 Issue: A Security Alert appears when you attempt to log in to PowerChute Business Edition Agent while "launching programs and files in an IFRAME" is disabled in Internet Explorer. Solution: Ensure that "launching programs and files in an IFRAME" is enabled in Internet Explorer. For Internet Explorer 6.0, you enable it as follows: (a) Select Internet Options on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. (b) On the Security tab, open the list of custom level settings. (c) Under Miscellaneous, enable "launching programs and files in an IFRAME." 6.5 Issue: The User Interface of the PowerChute Business Edition Agent becomes distorted when you enable "Ignore colors specified on Web Pages" in Internet Explorer. Solution: Disable "Ignore colors specified on Web pages." For Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 6.0, you disable it as follows: (a) Select Internet Options on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. (b) On the General tab, click "Accessibility..." (c) Unmark the checkbox for "Ignore colors specified on Web pages." 6.6 Issue: A Shell Script will not execute from within the PowerChute Business Edition Agent for Solaris. Solution: As the first line of the script, you must call the shell under which the script will run. 6.7 Issue: As the method by which Internet Explorer Web browser checks for newer versions of stored pages, the PowerChute Business Edition Agent does not support the "Every visit to the page" option. Solution: Configure "Automatically" as the method for Internet Explorer to check for newer versions of stored pages. For Internet Explorer 6.0, you configure it as follows: (a) Select Internet Options on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. (b) On the General tab, under "Temporary Internet files," click "Settings..." (c) Select "Automatically." 6.8 Issue: JVM files remain if you cancel a Solaris or Linux(R) installation. Solution: Manually remove all the installed files when you cancel an installation on these operating systems.
